DAY 11: THE TOURISTS AT PLYMOUTH
Yes, we did the tourist thing on Saturday, off to visit "America's hometown," where we saw the sights. Sorry, Paul, we weren't allowed to photograph inside the museum, so you'll have to come see Peregrine's cradle in person!

Here's Ashley taking in the colonial architecture of a Plymouth street...

and checking out the Mayflower II. (We didn't go on board.)

We were warned that the Rock had "lost something" of itself over the years, but we arrived more than a hundred years to late to get a piece of it.

The pilgrims are, of course, nearly universally revered in Plymouth, but the Native Americans will beg to differ with us on that point. I wish I'd taken a picture of their plaque about the "National Day of Mourning." We will settle for this photo of Massasoit, who got along famously with the original team in the colony, but his descendants and Bradford's followers launched a tragic war. To interpreters' credit, there is nice evidence and tribute to the native contributions to the survival of the colonists.
